Mapia ( is a large website created specially for Brazil that allows consumers from 16 of the largest cities in the country to submit reviews about restaurants, hotels and stores.

With over 15,000 locations and over 4,000 users registered, Mapia receives daily dozens of reviews and pictures and serves close to 20,000 pages, in a total of 400,000 pages and 130,000 visits monthly.

The website was created using some of the latest technologies available, such as Ruby On Rails, and javascript libraries like Prototype and Google Maps. SEO and performance optimizations were heavily used to make the application fast and easy to use. The site also includes an API, currently in beta test, that provides many of the functionality available in the site as a REST service.

The site was entirely created and to this date it’s still maintained only by me.
